THIS PAST MONDAY, A 15-YEAR-OLD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WAS ALMOST THAT PERSON. IS A MIRACLE THAT HE SURVIVED, BUT WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO RELY ON MIRACLES AND FORGIVENESS. WE NEED TO REDUCE THE SPEED, AND WE NEED TO REDUCE LANES TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. WE RECENTLY ADOPTED SAFE STREETS FOR ALL. THIS IS AN ORDINANCE THAT DIRECTS US AND GUIDES US ON HOW WE SHOULD RESPOND TO THESE TYPES OF INCIDENTS. IT HELPS US TO RECOGNIZE WHAT STREETS ARE UNSAFE AND HOW TO ADDRESS THEM. WHAT'S USED IN THIS INTERSECTION, THIS INCIDENT AS A TIME TO IMPLEMENT THIS PLAN. I APPRECIATE TXDOT STARTING A TRAFFIC STUDY, BUT WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO FIND OUT THAT CARS THAT GO TOO FAST AND CROSSWALKS DON'T MIX.
